Octane XT4700 Elliptical Review
Octane XT4700 Elliptical Rating
Detailed Overview
Besides auto-adjusting their length, the elliptical’s pedals also let you stride backward to challenge your muscles in a unique way. The available variety allows for fantastically targeted muscle training throughout the lower body. Upper-body exercise with the XT4700 is superior to what you get with most other ellipticals too. The handles are multi-grip to support different exercises, and unlike cheaper trainers they have a converging path to allow very natural arm motion.
Ideal for any skill level or training intensity, the XT4700 has 30 resistance settings and more than a dozen expertly designed workout programs, including some programs with customization. Also included are fitness boosters such as ArmBlaster and GluteKicker, which can be combined with other programs. Exercise data are shown on a choice of two consoles. The standard console with 16 workout programs has a large LED display, and the XT4700 Smart with 21 programs has a 10-inch touchscreen that can show video workouts and also has a web browser. With both consoles heart rate data can be included with the session feedback; high quality Polar Digital contact heart rate sensors are built into the handlebars, plus the elliptical works with a wireless heart rate receiver (chest strap not included).
The XT4700 is a top-notch trainer and could very well dominate any alternative at your local health club. Even so, it’s sized to be a reasonable addition to most homes. It measures 69” long x 31” wide and has a low step-on height.

Our Least Favorite Features
Just about anyone would prize the XT4700, but it’s only meant for shoppers with cash to spare.
- The sale price is high. Most other high-end home ellipticals cost less.
- The warranty isn’t competitive for the price, although it includes three years of parts replacement.
The Bottom Line
The Octane XT4700 is one of the most customized, effective and luxurious elliptical trainers available. Even at membership gyms you wouldn’t likely find a better match for cross training. If the price is a bit high though (and you take relatively long strides) then the almost-as-spectacular XT3700 is a recommended alternative.
